Description
Driving the Alaska Highway can be a great experience! You will drive through Alaska, Yukon and British Columbia and will encounter rugged mountains, azure lakes, raging rivers and limestone gorges. Moose, bear, bison, stone sheep and caribou sightings are common.
The highway itself can be a bit rough in some places as you will have to wait and be escorted through with pilot cars. The going is not always as good as this photo shows.
Plan your trip beforehand and be prepared to go off the highway to see the areas and stops that interest you. In Whitehorse we took a detour on the South Klondike Hwy ( a spectacular drive ) down to Skagway and then a ferry to Haines Alaska. The Richardson Hwy is also a beautiful drive.
If you don’t see the Alaska Highway from anything other than your vehicle’s windshield, you may be doing it wrong.
